We are among the first 50
packaging companies
worldwide to have our targets
approved by the SBTi
2. March 2023

TUBEX Aluminium Tubes has had its near-term emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a significant milestone in our sustainability roadmap.

TUBEX Aluminium Tubes, the world’s leading manufacturer of aluminium tubes, announces that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has assessed and approved its group-wide near-term reduction targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Our ambitious targets are consistent with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C/well below 2°C. They cover emissions from TUBEX Aluminium Tubes’ own operations and from our supply chain (scope 1, 2 and 3).

  • TUBEX Aluminium Tubes* commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by a minimum of 42% by 2030 from a 2020 base year.
  • TUBEX Aluminium Tubes* also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by a minimum of 42% within the same timeframe.

The SBTi has classified our company’s scope 1 and 2 target ambition and has determined that it is in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. This is currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process.

“The SBTi approval of our GHG reduction targets underlines our commitment to taking serious and transparent action on climate and to supporting sustainable development. We have decided to commit to SBTi to be in line with the latest climate science and to provide our stakeholders with transparency and accountability in the terminology we use to describe our goals. We are very pleased to be leading the way as the first aluminium tube manufacturer worldwide to be validated by the SBTi.” Thierry Bitout, Group CEO

This major step on our sustainability journey has inspired us to keep thinking about what more we can do. Which is why we are now also exploring routes to reaching net zero by 2050.

TUBEX launched its climate strategy in 2022. The roadmap is designed around three key areas: eco-design, a 1.5°C pathway and circularity. Each area has a list of priority steps that we’ll be taking over the next eight years, both in our own operations and throughout our supply chain. This will keep us on course to achieve our near-term targets in 2030.
